Why Tae Kwon Do?
Many centuries ago in a place known today as Korea, a form of weaponless self-defense came into practice which had no name. It was used often by the natives for survival against wild animals.
Through the years, the practice developed into an art not only for use as self-defense, but also as a sport, a means of regular physical exercise, and a philosophy by which one could spiritually enrich his life.
Today, the art is known as Tae Kwon Do, the Korean martial art; the perfect system of self-defense.
Literally translated, Tae means “kick with foot”, Kwon means “punch with hand”, and Do denotes an “art of”. Tae Kwon Do translates to the “art of kicking and punching”. Tae Kwon Do is the Korean system of symmetrical body exercises designed for unarmed self-defense and counterattack.
Tae Kwon Do offers the excitement of competition, the blessing of good health through regular exercise and once mastered, remains a silent weapon with which one may defend their life if necessary, or the life of a helpless person. But perhaps more importantly, Tae Kwon Do is a state of mind. It is the art of discipline to develop control, coordination and balance as well as courtesy and kindness. Tae Kwon Do has been shown to help deal with the symptoms of Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), Depression and more. It helps children learn discipline, team-work, coordination, confidence and even meet new friends.
Tae Kwon Do is a way of life. Focus with your mind, body and soul.
